Reproduction Gypsy Wife: Quilt-Along Project, Week 3

The third block in the Gypsy Wife quilt is called From the Heart, and is, of course heart-shaped, using two colours. It makes a 6″ block, so is smaller than the blocks from week one and two. Sewing this week has been a bit hampered by the heat wave (well, it is hot for Northern Europe!) with daytime temperatures all week at 104 (40 °C) and night-time temperatures in the 80’s (29°). As my studio is on the third floor, directly below the roof, it has been very hot there! Coincidently, it was just as hot in Paris, France, on Wednesday, which is probably the first time I can claim that our village has something in common with Paris!

So my choice of two reddish pink fabrics for the block was quite appropriate to the weather! The fabrics are both from a Civil War range by Marcus Brothers.

I duly cut all the triangles to make the block. The rotating cutting board from Olfa is really great for this, I find.

Then I pieced the block and trimmed it to size.

In the original quilt, the From the Heart is near the top on the left. See the week 3 progress photo below.

I noticed that my original 40 fat-quarter pack of reproduction fabrics had some shades and tones missing, so I have purchased some extra fat quarters from the Fat Quarter Shop, particularly the nice new range from Judie Rothermel, Judie’s Album Quilt from Marcus Brothers, so I will be able to mix it up a bit more in the weeks to come!
