Reproduction Gypsy Wife: Constructing the sections: Section 1

Time for a brief progress report: I have sewn together all the strips and blocks for section 1 of my Reproduction Gypsy Wife. So now I have made all the sections for the top half of the quilt (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 & 9) as well as section 10 from the lower half.

As section 2 has a partial strip on the right hand side that needs to be attached to section 1, I have also sewn section 1 to section 2.

Section 2

Which gives me Section 1 & 2.

Next up: sections 6 and 7, but that will have to wait for a break in the weather: after weeks of abnormally cold weather, then a week or so of ‘normal’ weather, we are now having a bizarrely warm snap and today it is 88°F (31°C) and so rather too hot on the third floor to be at the sewing machine with the iron steaming away in the background!

  1. Fiona – your quilt is amazing – I can see it is pieced perfectly and I am just going to love the end result!! You have done a fabulous job. Congratulations!
Yes, it’s been too hot here as well.

    • Hi Gayle, I made mine the standard size (the size given in the pattern): that is, I haven’t added a border to it, just made the sections and sewn them together. The finished size is therefore 59″ by 68″ or 150 x 173 cm (plus an extra 1/2″ for the binding).
