Hello, and welcome to my Ice Bear Quilts blog. I have been embroidering, sewing and quilting since childhood. I started out with Danish Cross Stitch when I was about 10, added dress-making from the age of 12 and have been fanatically patchworking and quilting since I was about 15. I learnt the basics by hand and then started out on my grandmother’s old green Elna sewing machine, then graduated to my mother’s slightly (and I mean slightly!) more modern grey Elna. I got my first new and own sewing machine as my 21st birthday present (a Pfaff 1473 CD), made in West Germany just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. My trusty Pfaff went from school to university with me, and everywhere I’ve been since, and is still going strong more than 28 years on (regular maintenance is the key!). A few years ago I added a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0 to my studio, and now do all my piecing and quilting of small items with it. The latest addition to my (increasingly crowded) studio is a Pfaff Powerquilter 16.0 mid-arm machine. We are just beginning to get to know each other!
I reside in The Netherlands, and it is there that the Ice Bear Quilts studio is based. For the first time in my life I have the luxury of a dedicated quilting space: the Ice Bear Quilts studio, situated on the third floor of our house. These days I quilt more than anything else, but embroidery, home décor and fashion sewing still take place on occasion! I hope you enjoy your glimpse into my quilting and sewing world.
